Queens Borough Bridge

The Queens Borough Bridge is know as the 59th street bridge because it will bring you to 59th street in Manhattan. The Queens borough bridge is a cantilever bridge over the East River in New York City. The bridge was completed in 1909. Later the bridge collapsed and 50 people died. On March 30,1909 the bridge was opened to the public and having a cost of $18 million and 50 lives. In June 1909 there was a grand opening ceremonial there. It was know as the 'Blackwells Island Bridge'.

General Information-Queens

Queens is the largest borough of all the boroughs reaching 126 square miles.It has a population of about 2,230,000 people.The reason the borough is named Queens is because in the year 1683,the English named a big part of the land Queens after the Queen of England while another half of the land is named Brooklyn or Kings County which is named after the King of England.
