Education is a major part of everyone's life and Singaporeans have to undergo at least 6 compulsory years of education. Below is a typical student's path as it is difficult to provide a comprehensive look at the multiple paths and programmes available. Singapore provides a holistic education system, with students participating in different co-curricular activities to supplement their academic studies. There are also many specialised institutes for talented students to improve themselves: Singapore Sports School, School of the Arts, and so on, just to name a few.
Path of Education
Age 7-12 National Exam: Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)
Age 13-16 / 13-17 National Exam: Ordinary ('O') Level Examination
JUNIOR COLLEGE / POLYTECHNICS / ITE
1. Junior College (Age 17 to 18) National Exam: Advanced ('A') Level Examination or International Baccalaureate (IB) Examination 2. Polytechnic (Age 17 to 19/20) 3. Institute of Technical Education (ITE)
