Unhealthy for Our Friends

This is a picture I took of rubbish on the James River that could choke an underwater or land animal.

Litter Part 1

Litter plays a big part in being a good citizen. It is against the law, so good citizens do not litter. Litter can affect water, also. The litter on land can be washed into the ocean by storms and floods. This is how issues with the underwater wildlife can form.
Litter can affect many underwater animals. Oil spills, for instance, can stick to birds’ feathers. We really need to realize, that if we want our environment around forever, then we need to care more about it then we are doing. Wild animals die every day because of the effect of the pollution that is released into the environment. If everybody stopped littering, we probably wouldn’t be in the situation we’re in with the environment. Therefore, littering is against the law and the environment.
Ocean and water based litter is not the only litter around. There are other forms of litter, too. Litter can be on land, which causes almost the exact same effects as in the water. One of the only differences is that the land litter can effect how we physically live. Some of the things that can happen is that we tend to think things like this: “Oh, it really is no big deal if I litter. What is one piece of trash compared to the whole world?” But in reality, it is litter compared to properly disposed garbage.

Litter Part 2

Litter can also be pollution. Pollution is when litter gets out of control, or large amounts of litter. Air pollution has a mighty effect on our earth. Have you ever heard of Global Warming? If you haven’t, then I will tell you what it is. Global Warming is when we use chemicals that are bad for our earth. These chemicals are so harmful that they have burned a hole in the ozone layer that protects us from the sun’s harmful rays. This happened over the Arctic, so now the ice is melting, causing the oceans to rise and the polar bears to die. Consequently, our world could be destroyed.
Lastly, we need to learn to prevent this from happening. The littlest things could help; turning the water off while you brush your teeth, walk to a place that you can walk to rather than drive-there is so much to prevent this horrible nightmare from happening. So lets all do our part in being a good citizen, to prevent trashing our world, ourselves, and our future.
