Summary of data received from 37 SA classes

We sent out two question to numerous South African schools.
The two questions are: What children enjoy doing on holiday in South Africa. What is my favourite type of holiday acommadation?

Favourite type of holiday accommodations

What is my favourite type of holiday accommodation?
1. Explain why most children would prefer to stay in a hotel.
2. Choose one of the least favourite types of holiday accommodations and give a reason in one or two sentences for your choice.

That is a hard question for Grade 3. A hotel is a luxury and it is a lot of fun. A bed and breakfast is boring for children.

I think farms are unpopular because
it is muddy, there is no televion and there is no playground.

I think that children would want to stay in a hotel because it has lots of luxuries. When we got the results back from the SA schools a chalet had the least votes. When we googled the word chalet, it was a beautiful place to stay at. We thought it had the least votes because no one knew what it was.

Most people like to stay in a hotel because it has luxury and they don't need to anything. They don't like chalets as it may be selfcatering and they may not know what it is and how beautiful they are.

I think children will like to stay at a hotel because it is so luxurious and in some hotels you can just ring a bell and a butler comes up. I think that children will like the self catering house the least because you have to bring your own food.

Give reasons for your answers.

I think that going to the beach is is fun. Our beaches in South Africa are good for swimming and surfing. People like to see different things in different cities.Our cities in South Africa are interesting.
I think people are lazy so they don't want to build and repair in their holidays.

We get lots of sunshine in South Africa. I think people like to go to the beach to meet different people.
It's good to go to different cities because you learn new things.

I think people like the beach so much because it's a place that you can relax at. At the beach you can do all sorts of things for example you can surf and swim. The reason why people like to go to different cities is because there are lots of different things to do. I just don't know why 3 people would like to build and repair during the holidays!

I think it is a luxury to go to the beach for the children who stay in towns or cities that are not near the coast. I wouldn't want to build or repair things, it is to tiring and especially on a hot day when you want to swim. At the beach you can do just about everything you want to do! At the beach there is always refreshments and beverges for your thirst and hunger.

The beach is the favourite holiday place on the chart. I think many children that aren't near the coast would want to go to the beach. I would want to and I'm on the coast. The second favourite is going to a different town or city, as many children will get bored with their hometown. The least favourite is building and repairing and I think no one would want to do hard work in the holidays. Only three people chose this.
