Advice from tourism experts

Please write a short paragraph about what you have learnt after interviewing an expert.

  • I interviewed the tourism experts. I learnt that you cannot tell white lies and being a tour guide you must know everything that is tourist related. You must be able to communicate with the tourist in their own language.

  • I learnt alot from Thembeka and Mr. Lyon. I learnt you have to prepare well in advance for tourists you are taking on tour. You must never tell a white lie. The tourists must be informed about the cost in advance. So if you they ask you something, rather say let me find out for you. As a tour guide, you need certain qualifications to be a proper tour guide. You also need a PDP( Public Drivers Permit.) Tourists also have to sign a letter saying if they get hurt you cannot be liable. I learnt new info about history, plants, places, events that happened (such as the coelacanth) and animals. You also must be able to communicate with your tourists.

  • I learnt lots from Aunty Jeanette. She told us all about wildlife and how to take care of it. She taught us to be a good tour guide and love the work. I learnt of different animals, where they stay, and what they eat.

  • Tourists like to see wild animals and our beaches. Language can be a problem if tourists don't understand English. You can show them hand signs. If you want to be a great tour guide you have to love your job. You must also know your area very well.
