Friends, Teens and making choices (I)

Friends? Who’s in this world don’t have any friend. We all have friends. Even though we’re not really closed to our friends, we still have friends. We need friends. That’s why God made Eve for Adam. The reason is to make Adam did not feel lonely. We also know that Eve made Adam taking the fruit that God forbid to take and eat it. So we are. Friend can affect us to make a choice. Adam finally made a choice to take that fruit and ate it. We all must make a choice. When you get older, the choices that you get will be more difficult to make and may also have big impact on your life.

There are so many choices among teens to chose. Friend can affect us to choose our choices. Some friends help us to make the choices that will bring us to a big success or a great future. But some of them also can bring us to a choice that bring us to a big failed or bad impact to us. A good friend will tell you if you got the wrong ways. Maybe they will show you some good way that you can choose for your goods. For example, you have choice to choose what club to participate with it. You are confused to choose basketball club or soccer club. Friends can help you to choose. Friends usually can see your hidden talent. They say you are really good at swimming and they ask you if you want to participate at swimming club. Then you also realize that swimming is your hobby and you can do that well. This is only an example that friends can bring a good impact for your life.

Friends, Teens, and making choices (II)

But, there are so many friends in this world that really affect you to choose the wrong way. For example, friends asked you to skip school, to drink alcohol, to try drugs, to smoking or even to have sex before marry. The most popular case is about smoking. Based on research, about 3600 students from four geographic region in the US found that having a best friend who had a smoking habit was the strongest influence on whether an eight-grade student reported smoking at anytime. Even though our parents already teach us the effect if we smoked or forbid us to smoke, our friends can change our mind.

If we have friends who influence us to choose the choice, there are some tips that you can use to refuse their invitation. Here some ways of saying no to someone closed to you and want you to do something that you don’t want to do or you now it’s bad for you:

• "I'm not interested"
• "I've got something else to do"
• "I don't feel like it"
• "It makes me sick"
• "I've got a better idea"
• Make an excuse to go to the washroom or leave if you are feeling uncomfortable
