Location

Situated at 6km from Rasova and 4km from Ion Corvin township,and being one of the most important christian locations at the moment in Romania Cave of Saint Apostle Andrei's,known as the 1st sanctuary of our country and the gate of Romania christendom.

Legend

Tradition says that suddenly after Saint Andrew's death, a storm came above them, and a lightning strike blinded all who were there. Since then, the cross sign in ' X ' shape became a sign which draws the atention on possible dangers and warns us.

History

The cave of saint Apostle Andrei has been here since St. Apostle Andrei came in Scythia Minor ( nowadays Dobrogea ) around the year 60 AD. and he stopped along with his aprentices in a cave situated near the forest of Ion Corvin village .This place is the 1st christian place for praying in Romania .Sadly St. Apostle Andrei had a martyr end being crucified at Patras near Corint ,on a cross in ' X ' Shape wich has been called " the Cross of St. Andrei ".Around the cave at almost 150km west there are nine springs where people say that have the best water from all Dobrogea.Also near the cave a river has been formed and it is said the St. Andrei baptized people there.The monastery St. Andrei , is part of the Romanian spirit.it is a place where christians and those who know and respect the christian values cand find moments of peace and quietness and can admire the beauty of the construction and can understand the credo and the sacrifice of St. Andrei.

    In the St. Andrew Monastery I liked especially the forest surrounding the monastery,the monks' tidy cells,the flowers in front of the cells which have some lovely colors.

    The legend says that Saint Andrew stopped there and also says that you must write on a sheet of paper a desire and then put it in the walls of the cave.That wish will be fulfilled.
