The Table of Brotherhood
• Essential question or problem that this project addresses:
“When in Rome, do as Romans do” This is a saying that means:”When you go to another country, you’ll find different customs and traditions”
• Curriculum standards
Each student will do a survey about a country around the world choosing from : ASIA-AUSTRALIA-AFRICA-AMERICA- EUROPE and will describe its geographical and economic aspects. They will draw also a map of the country and will describe it with a short caption saying what hunger is, what the reasons are, such as war, natural catastrophe, lack of education and so on. Then he /she will focus on the consequences of hunger, as nutrition and calories deficiency and some illness. Then students will describe the foods that people usually eat and some special dishes with some traditional food information supported by pictures or drawings made by students with ms paint or hand painted. Each of them will interview people coming from the country they are doing the survey or on the internet and will make a video. Students will also create a game or a quiz about recipes from different countries.
• Expected outcomes
The final product will be a dish used in the country and cooked by each member . The recipes will be written on the project. In this way each student will sit at the table of brotherhood and will help each other offering the dish cooked , giving in this way an end to the hunger.
• Required resources
Internet, books, encyclopedia, interviews, school library.
• How will this project help the class, school, community or world?
At the end of the work students will prepare something to eat in their own school and will invite parents, relatives and all the school staff to buy the food prepared. All the proceeds will be given in charity to help the countries in which there is still hunger!
