EASTERN EUROPE
Folk music of Eastern Europe comes from many different traditions. Often the music was written by peasants working on farms and tells about their hardships. Other songs tell about heroes some dating as far as medieval times. Balkan region in Eastern Europe has a very strong folk tradition. In this area many cultures met to create different sounding music. This region was ruled by Ottoman Empire for 500 years so the influences of Turkish music are also visible. Music is also used for traditional dances that are danced at celebrations and major events. Today there is also a tradition of folk in this area, kind of like country in the USA.
