Eisriesenwelt

Eisriesenwelt – the world of the ice giants it’s considered the greatest system of ice caves from Europe, its drift network and impressive corridors are spreading for a fen 40 km in the Tennen massif situated in South of Salzburg
Near the entrance there is an ice wall 30 m high: beyond it extended a labyrinth of caverns and colours. In the colourlless light of the lamps and the flash lights we perceive curtains and ice columns but the hoar frost layed down on the stone’s walls is glimmering in the golden light systems and fairy silhouettes received a name like “ice- organ“ or “freezing chapel”, while, for in the mountain’s deep ,a stock- curtain cover “the ice door “. From place to place ,cold streams strongly whistle in the narrow drifts, arouse by the movement of the air in the entrances of the cave, up, on the mountain the ice giants were created by the water which strickled in the limestone caves made for ever 2 mil years before At the height-Eisriesenwelt is ever 1500 m above the sea level- in winter the temperature in the caves lower very much.
The rain and the water from the melt of the ice in spring time strickle in the freeze suddenly in the inner cave, creating such a spectacular systems –the so-called stalactites and stalagmites from the limestone caves.
