SURVEY

A survey has been conducted on 161 teenagers aged between 13-16 on their views on home safety issues. It is conducted through esurveyspro.com

Here is a brief summary of the results gathered from the survey.

Those surveyed had past experienced of home accidents and most just self-treat. If the injury was minor, it would be fine to self-treat. To self-treat means that they have medicines or ointment in standby. This means that they are prepared for minor injuries at home. Most of the people surveyed feel that home is the safest place but yet a majority have home safety products. This means that they are aware that home may be safe but accidents can still occur.  Many of the people surveyed know the emergency hotline numbers. This means that they know what to do in case of an emergency. This can save lives because of quick action. Many people’s homes are well-lit which can prevent falling or tripping. 60% of those that had elderly in their homes do not have grip holds in the bathroom or toilet. Grip holds are one of the common home safety equipment that can prevent unnecessary falling.

In conclusion, the people surveyed are well aware that home safety accidents can occur and most know how to handle such situation. Most know how to self-treat minor injuries and most know the emergency hotlines. However, the people surveyed do not know much about the preventive measures of home accidents. As the saying goes, it is better to be safe than sorry. It is better to prevent than to try and treat the result of one’s ignorance which is totally unnecessary.

Why survey teenagers? Well, teenagers can play a part too. Since teenagers are more tech-savvy, they can find out the preventive measures online and tell their parents. Also, they can find out companies that sell home safety products and their whereabouts, and inform their parents. When the parents are out at work, teenagers can play an important role at home and in the event that an accident occurs, they can help out. The life of an elderly or a small child will be dependent on the teenager’s ability to act fast.
