The future of space tourism is not going to be like the Axiom in Wall-E. It will consist of short flights into space that have a short time of weightlessness. Virgin Galactic and Scaled Composites have an edge on other space tourism companies as Scaled Composites' previous spacecraft, SpaceShipOne, reached space twice in two weeks to win the Ansari X Prize. Virgin Galactic has contracted Scaled Composites to build a bigger and better version of their SpaceShipOne, aptly named SpaceShipTwo. Other companies that you might use to hitch a ride into space sometime in the near future are the TALIS Institute, EADS Astrium, SpaceX, Constellation Servises International (CSI), Excalibur Almaz or Space Adventures. Most of those plans include a mother ship that carries the spacecraft up to a certain altitude before releasing the spacecraft and having the spacecrafts' own rocket propel it into space. Soon the prices for space tourism will fall into the affordable range as more companies get the keys to space tourism and to compete for passengers with other companies with lower prices.
