Mainland animals vs Island animals
The island fox and the gray fox are very different and alike. The gray fox is bigger than the island fox (the island fox is 18-20 in. long and the gray fox is 31.5-41.3). The island fox and the grey fox are both monogamous in reproduction. The island fox starts breeding in late February to early March and the grey fox starts breeding in Feburary only. The island fox and the grey fox are both omnivorous. They both have the different scientific classification. This is a island fox scientific classification:Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Chordata, Class: Mammalia, Order: Carnivora, Family: Canidae, Genus: Urocyon, Species: U. littoralis and the grey fox scientific classification is the same thing, but one thing. That one thing is that the species is U. cinereoargenteus. All in all, the grey fox and the island fox are so much alike and so much different.

Deer mouse to mouse

There are many animals in the world and most of them are different from each other. There are animals that live on islands that have different adaptations from the animal that is from the mainland. The reason is, is because after a period of time they grow use to their surroundings and change there own adaptations to live with less struggles on there new habitat. An example is the Island fox compared to the Grey fox. They may both be foxes but they have different adaptations from one and another. Another example is the Deer mouse (Peromyscus maniculatus) and the common mouse (Mus musculus). The deer mouse has been living on San Miguel for 16 years while a common mouse has been around for many many years. The common mouse is about anywhere from 7.5 cm – 10 cm but the Deer mouse is about 170 mm. You can tell the difference between them because the Deer mouse is light on the bottom and darker on the top of the body. The Deer mouse also has small white feet. Common mice are less hairy than the Deer Mouse. The deer mouse does better off in the wild while the common mouse doesn’t do so well in the wilderness, the common mouse is also used in the laboratories a lot for medicine. Both of these mice mate during every season of the year. The Deer Mouse is alike from the common mouse from ways and different from it a lot of ways.
