Where were the 2008 Summer Olympics held?

The 2008 Summer Olympics were held in Beijing, China. Most athletes had to travel from a very far distance to compete in this important event. They came from Germany, Canada, Russia, and other parts of the world. When they arrived, they saw hundreds of thousands of sports fans.

Public transportation is a priority in Beijing. They have a huge subway system that was available for all the travelers coming to the Olympics. Also, Beijing Capital Airport, is the absolute biggest airport in China today.
 

Common groceries found in Beijing are chillies, ginger, beef and lamb. In Beijing, they believe that some foods can heal people. Bears paw and deer musk are just two of these special foods. Imperial Court Food is a style of Chinese food that comes from the Imperial Palace.

 
What were some of the highlights of the 2008 Summer Olympics?

The thing that stands out in the Summer Olympics, are the athletes, but some were more popular than others. For instance, Chris Hoy won 3 gold metals. He is a British cycler and has a record for his fast cycling. Hoy’s teammates helped him succeed.  Another very exciting event that happened in the 2008 Olympics was when Usain Bolt made it to the finish line. He burst three world records. Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter with an amazing ability to run fast. Another big winner in the Beijing Olympics was the great Michael Phelps. He scored 8 gold medals in swimming, a great achievement. Some experts think his unusual body type has helped him become an excellent swimmer.
