Opinions Facts
Visuals can distract students, lead them away from main focus of lesson (from survey) Retention of knowledge can be enhanced using visual methods and engagement levels of students will also be increased as compared to conventional text-based or abstract representations. With higher levels of interest and engagement, students would be more inclined to put in more effort in their learning, yielding better learning results. (Mr. Dean Ang Interview)
Visuals are underutilized in schools and should be implemented more (Mr. Fernandez Interview) It is hard for visual learning to be implemented more commonly as there are many time and financial constraints. A lot of time and effort must be put into training the teachers and translation of conventional resources into visual learning aids (Mr Fernandez, Mr Dean Ang Interview)
Visuals should be implemented as core teaching method in schools (our hypothesis) There is no need for visual learning to be the main method of education (Mr. Fernandez Interview) and a healthy balance must be struck with all the other learning methods (tactile, auditory etc.)
Visual learning is the most common and effective form of learning (our hypothesis) Visual learning is very effective, but only in certain disciplines especially those involving abstract, systematic concepts such as math and science (Mr. Fernandez Interview)
Visual learning should only be implemented with a computer Although animation does constitute effective use of visual learning, if not feasible/possible, students still can benefit from visual learning by other ways such as mindmaps and drawings.
