Effect of Noise on Environment

Noise from the following sources affects our environment

  • Machinery or Industrial Noise
  • Transportation Noise: includes noise from road and air traffic, construction, railroads and hospitals
  • Domestic Noise - includes home appliances, television, loud toys, musical instruments and noisy neighborhoods

    Loud Noise has a big impact on following communities:

  • Parks: Snowmobiles, aircraft noise and cars disturb the beauty and peace surroundings of parks
  • Work place: Depending on the work, one is exposed to various noises. People in manufacturing industries and construction workers are at higher risk of exposure to noise
  • Buildings, Homes, Class Rooms: Noise can be internal or from noisy surroundings.These can include electrical appliances, noise from outside sources due to problems in insulation or hard surfaces.
  • Beaches: Jetskis are the biggest noise problem in our beaches

    Noise also causes various problems for the following:

  • Humans : Infants to seniors are at risk from exposure to noise and noise causes various health issues
  • Animals: Humans conduct experiments in the oceans and use air- guns, sonars for location of objects in the ocean, oil exploration and production. The loud noise affects marine animals.
  • Birds: Cannot communicate or move freely with their kind when there is loud noise and this upsets their natural habits

    Whales and dolphins, have strong inner ears which may have evolved to resist the strong noise in oceans.
