Margaret is a girl who is 12 years old and lives in the Pacific Northwest. She is influenced by the shows her mom watches on T.V. In the beginning of the book she wrote a report at school on packs of wild chihuahuas and killer bees . Margaret's mom doesn't do anything but watch gory nature shows and sleep. Margaret's mom is depressed after her husband died. Margaret rode in a car with her family to go across the puget sound in the ferry. She went and figured out that her mom is putting a sign up that says FOR SALE so she decides to investigate the house.
     While she was there Margaret found an envelope that had her mom's name on it.When Margaret gets home she decides to take a look inside it, but Sophie (her little sister) found it also. So Sophie wants to see but Margaret wants to keep it to herself. Margaret opens it anyway even though her sister Sophie made her promise to open it with her. Margaret finds a swimming medal, a comic book and a key. Margaret thinks it is a key to the house her mom put the for sale sign on. The comic book had a picture of the house that the sign was on also. Margaret decides to go back to the mansion and find out more about her dad.  Sophie is worried that Margaret might get attacked by killer bees.
     Margaret met a new friend named Tina Louise and Tina has helped Margaret with getting ready and giving tips for her like remember to breathe and if you see anyone be careful who to talk to. Margaret goes on the ferry and heads toward the island with the mansion. When she gets off she goes places like the store to get directions. She meets a boy named Boyd who has been reading the comic books that Margaret found in the envelope. Boyd saves Margaret from THE THREES, the school bullies. I won't tell you the ending so go read this book.



    My group and I think that the mansion is on the San Juan Islands.
