Welcome!
If you are a committed citizen of the world, this website is for you.
"We now live in a single global civilization... Our planet has, for the first time in the long history of the human race, been covered in the space of a very few decades by a single civilization - one that it essentially technological."
-Vaclav Havel
Since the end of World War II our world has become much smaller. Every day as people and goods travel across the world our borders become more invisible. With technology constantly changing we are becoming closer to each other. Many people no longer identify themselves as citizens of one country. They are members of a global community. Treaties are seen as the basis of an international code of conduct that must be adhered to by all, regardless of race, religion, language or gender. The aim of this site is to educate global citizens about the treaties that make up international law. We hope you enjoy your journey into our global history, as it has been forged in ink.
Quotes
Here are some of our favorite quotes relating to treaties.
Political...
"The United Nations is an extremely important and useful institution provided the peoples and governments of the world realize that it is merely a transitional system toward the final goal, which is the establishment of a supranational authority vested with sufficient legislative and executive powers to keep the peace."
-Albert Einstein
Environmental...
"And Man created the plastic bag and the tin and aluminum can and the cellophane wrapper and the paper plate, and this was good because Man could then take his automobile and buy all his food in one place and He could save that which was good to eat in the refrigerator and throw away that which had no further use. And soon the earth was covered with plastic bags and aluminum cans and paper plates and disposable bottles and there was nowhere to sit down or walk, and Man shook his head and cried: 'Look at this Godawful mess.'"
-Art Buchwald
Human Rights...
"We've got to take back the ideal of justice, we've got to take back this principle of human dignity. We've got to take it back from vengeance, from hatred, we've got to say: look, we're all in this together. We are human beings."
-David Kaczynski
Military...
"Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events."
-Sir Winston Churchill
