The Team
Hilary
Hello!
My name is Hilary, I am 19 years old and I live in Newcastle, Australia. I am studying International Studies through the University of New England. I have many broad interests, including music, modern history, politics, foreign language, and Doctor Who!
My role in 'The Olive Branch' has been content writer.
I have known Tina, our coach, for many years, as well as having worked with Rianti and Adi on another Thinkquest project. Tina put me in contact with Sarah and we began throwing around ideas for our site. We decided that the topic of international treaties since 1945 is a very interesting topic that affects every single citizen of Earth. We contacted Jocelyn online, and our team was born.
We collaborated through email and online messengers. Gathering everyone together to discuss issues was rather difficult due to the different time zones - even Tina and I, living in the same country, were out by at least an hour due to Daylight Savings times during the summer! However, we managed to overcome this to create the website you see today.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working on this task and my team mates have been an absolute pleasure to work with! Enjoy!
Sarah
Hello! My name is Sarah. I'm 16 years old, and I live in New Hampshire, USA. I'm homeschooled, but I also take courses at the New Hampshire Virtual Learning Academy and Londonderry High School.
I've been designing websites since I was 10, and this is my second time participating in ThinkQuest. I was introduced to ThinkQuest last year when I worked with our coach Tina on Schools of the Future: Education in the 21st Century. This year was different because I was the only web designer.
My main jobs were creating the design and all the graphics, coding the site, making sure the pages didn't have bugs, and putting HTML formatting on the articles. I used Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 for all the graphics (it may be outdated, but it's still my favorite!), and coded everything by hand in Notepad++.
I'd like to thank my parents for putting up with everything, and of course, everyone on the team. Tina was an amazing coach, Hilary put in countless hours writing the content, Rianti used her artistic eye to help me a lot with the design, and Jocelyn did such an awesome job translating everything into Chinese on short notice.
Jocelyn
Hi there!
I'm Wei (yeah it's a really short name) but you can call me Jocelyn instead. I'm turning 19 and I'm from the little red dot on the world map, Singapore. I have graduated from Tampines Junior College in Dec 2008 and am currently waiting for admission into a university.
This is my first time participating in ThinkQuest. I got to know about ThinkQuest from an ex-classmate and my job involves translating all the web content into Chinese.
I am honored to be working with such a dedicated team. Even though we are living in different parts of the world and in different time zones, it is amazing how we can all come together to contribute a part of our time on this project.
Adi
Hello, my name is Kuniadi, but you can call me Adi. I’m 19 years old this year and a fourth-semester undergraduate student at UNPAR. Lately, I've rarely been at home because of I've been studying so hard, especially for my mid-tests. Also, working on the site was difficult, because I could only get on the internet with my sister Rianti's notebook.
I’m the second child in my family, and I was born in Bandung. My role in this team was the making the game layout and the crossword puzzle. My hobbies are playing games and sports, especially badminton. This is my third experience of being part of a ThinkQuest team. I think that this is a great team and I am looking forward to the finished site. It has been nice working with Tina and all the other team members, Rianti, Sarah, Jocelyn and of course, Hilary.
The Coaches
Tina
I am Tina Photakis, from Adelaide in South Australia and I had the wonderful job of being the primary coach for this amazing team. I have been involved with ThinkQuest for quite a few years now and I must say how impressed I was with the way that this team, after a few setbacks, displayed such sheer determination to finish the website.
The team may have been small but it was a powerhouse of activity and dedication. I would like to acknowledge each team member's contribution to the website and I would also like to thank them for this amazing ThinkQuest experience.
Hilary has been involved with ThinkQuest over the years and is an avid fan. It was her wish to compete in the last ThinkQuest competition as a student and she was the one and only content writer for our team. She showed us all how determined and focused she was in ensuring that the content was rich and informative. Hilary had a mammoth job which she handled with extreme competency. She showed leadership and used her initiative on many occasions.
Sarah had the responsibility for the web design and creation. I have watched her develop self-confidence in all areas of web design and I was very impressed with the level of quality that she achieved with her web skills. Sarah was constantly working behind the scenes and surprised us all with her unique web design. We are all so proud of her efforts and her amazingly positive approach to her work and the whole ThinkQuest experience.
Jocelyn is an ace translator and she has impressed us all with her quick turnaround of articles. She just got on with the job at hand and asked for clarification if she was unsure of anything. We were so lucky to have had her on our team.
I have really enjoyed having Adi on the team and appreciate his great work on our interactive part of the site. I also admire his determination to meet deadlines even under stressful conditions.
Rianti has been an amazing assistant coach and the team has been fortunate to have her excellent guidance. She was always on hand to give support on our Yahoo group and she has an incredible eye for design and graphics. What I admire the most in Rianti is her ability to put aside her own personal matters and to give her all to the team members. She is an excellent operator and went out of her way to be there for the team and me. Thank you Rianti!
As a coach and teacher, I have learnt so much from this excellent team of students, who in their own unique way, made the exceptional website that you see today. They met regularly online, even though they were in different time zones and they used the online group space to keep in regular contact with each other, and myself. I commend this wonderful group and I thank them for having me as their primary coach. I would also like to thank my family for their understanding of my involvement in ThinkQuest. I believe in giving students amazing opportunities to extend themselves, especially globally, and ThinkQuest provides an opportunity for them to do this. I wish all of the team members lots of luck in their future and congratulate them on the creation of a successful website.
Rianti
Hi! My Name is Rianti and I'm the team's assistant coach from Bandung, Indonesia. I'm 22 years old and just finished my master degree in Game Design Technology major at the Institute Technology of Bandung. I'm currently teaching design extracurricular at Trinitas Senior High School in Bandung, Indonesia as well as being an assistant lecturer at my college.
I'm interested in Game Design development focused in Visual aspect from concept art, story boarding to interface. I often participate in many Competitions (National & International) and also attend seminars to add to my experience as well as sharing my idea through my work to the world. One of my achievements that I'm really proud of is being the 2nd winner of Game Design category at the Animex International Animation Festival Middlesbrough where I tried to use the theme of Reincarnation in the game story. My role in the project is as main conceptor, illustrator and storyboard artist. My game concept “Lil' Sandscape” also made it to semi final in SXSW game design competition in Austin Texas.
This is my 4th year participating in ThinkQuest and each year has always been a new experience for me. This year's team, although small in number, showed their great work and contribution. This team also showed me that no matter how hard the road was, one's goal could be reached through great effort. This is because the human ability sometimes surprised us by how far it can go when pushed in a positive way!
Great thanks to all team members! Tina for her never-ending support for the team. Hilary for her great articles and for nominating me as assistant coach. Sarah for her fabulous design and her team-spirited personality, Adi for his great games, and Jocelyn for her fast translation. I look forward to meeting you all someday! It's been such a great pleasure to work with all of you.
Last but not least, I hope that you find this site is useful!
