The New York Rangers

Basis

The New York Rangers have captured the cup four times, placing them second to last against the other Original Six. Hosting their games now at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers have yet to win the Cup since their 1993-1994 triumph. Having no mascot, they may lack the moral support that the other teams gain from their furry friends.

History

The New York Rangers joined the NHL as the New York Americans Playing in Madison Square Gardens. The Rangers are one of the oldest teams in the NHL, having joined in 1926. The Rangers were the first NHL franchise in the United States to win the Stanley Cup, which they have done a total of four times (most recently in 1994). In only their second season, the Rangers won the Stanley Cup, defeating the Montreal Maroons three games to two. Home to the most famous player in the NHL, Wayne Gretzky played and broke records with the Rangers. Having last won the Cup in 1994, this was also the year that Gretzky retired, and his number was retired officially by the NHL. This was the only number in history ever retired by the NHL. (This means that no-one in the NHL can ever that number again.

Logo and Uniforms

Navy, red, white. What combination could better suit the Rangers. In the shape of a shield, the Rangers make sure that they clarify that they own that shape as their logo. By reading in between the lines, you can clearly make out ‘New York Rangers’ in bold white lettering on top of a blue backing. The home jersey is draped with navy blue, with ‘Rangers’ printed in capital letters going diagonally downward from top-left corner, to bottom right. There are white, red, white stripes around the arms and waist. The away jersey though is a bit flashier. With a base coat of white, the same writing is printed on the jersey, except in navy and red, not red and white. The shoulders, and around the arms and waist have a combination of blue, white, red, white, blue lines. The jersey design is finished with navy draping the area around the wrists.
