Basis

Founded in 1926, the Chicago Blackhawks have only captured three Stanley Cup titles, and are in last compared to the other original six teams. From 1926-1986, the team was called the Blackhawks or the Black Hawks. Since the team needed to decide one from the other, in 1986 they officially named there team the Chicago Blackhawks.

History

The Chicago Blackhawks joined the NHL in 1926. The First Stanley Cup win was the 1938. When they had a record of 14-25 an just made the playoffs. They won against Montreal and New York and went to the finals with Toronto. The Chicago goalie, Mike Karakas, had an injury and could not play, but the Blackhawks found a minor league goalie named Alfie Moore in a Toronto bar who would play. The team surprisingly won the game, but the only game Alfie Moore played was the one he won. He didn't win any other games. Fortunately Mike Karakas was able to return to the team. The Blackhawks still hold the record of the worst regular season record for a Stanley Cup champion team.

Logo and Uniforms

The first owner of the Blackhawks was Frederic McLaughlin. He had been a commander of the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division during World War I. The division was nick named the "Blackhawk Division", after a Native American of the Sauk nation, Chief Black Hawk. McLaughlin had named the team in honour of his division. The fitting logo was a picture of a Native American Chieftain (Chief Black Hawk). So that was the logo. Their home jersey is mainly red with the famous Chicago Blackhawks’ shoulder patch, witch consists of two tomahawks criss-crossing. There are white, black, white stripes around both arms, and a white, black, white, black, white striped pattern around the waist. The away jersey has a base colour of white, with the Blackhawks’ shoulder patch. There are black, white, red, white, black stripes around the waist and both arms. The area around the wrists are draped in black.

Mascot

Tommy Hawk, as in a hawk, a bird who wears the Blackhawks’ feathers on his head, with the Blackhawks’ jersey and pants. He participates with the common t-shirt toss, and puck chuck at home games. He often greets fans before games. Tommy was introduced in the 2001-2002 season. Although he is not a true player, Tommy has been given his own collectable hockey card. As a funny fact, he lists his favourite food as ‘Volcano Taco’.
