The clothing of the ancient tribes of Oceania have included, loincloths for men, wrap skirts for women and both genders wore cloth coverings on their shoulders. The clothes were made of pounded bark, palm, hemp and cotton among other things. In colder areas, such as New Zealand, cloaks made of feathers, dog hair, and bundles of grass and other plants, were worn. Fabrics were usually bright colours, like blue or red, and embellished with paints, patterns, stripes, beads and other decorative items. Similar to most other cultures, the way you dressed symbolized you rank (e.g. only those of high rankings in the Maori could where cloaks made of feathers). When the Europeans arrived in the 16th century, the people of Oceania began to adopt there style of clothing. In Hawaii, this lead to the creation of the muumuu, a loose fitting dress, for women and the creation of aloha shirts, short sleeved western style shirts in traditional bright colours, for men.

Popular sports in Oceania include Cricket, Australians are very sucessful in football and rugby. Rugby is also the national sport of New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, Tonga and Papua New Guinea. Australian rules football is the national sport of Nauru.
