Kayan people have a tradition or wearing brass coil around their necks, this is their form of body modification. They are worn by womenfolk. The brass is a tough metal and the process of placement can take several hours depending on the length. Despite the look, the neck can be misjudged, it can look longer than it actually is it’s not stretched at all, the rings do put pressure on the muscles around the neck to make it look longer that’s all. The rings are a symbolized according to the Kayan ledged of the mother dragon, “she”. They are also sort of a beauty contest throughout the tribe. The rings weight about 10kbls, they are worn on the neck and the legs, and they are made from 3 separate coils. The main coils also the wider one is on the shoulders with a 90 degree coil wrapped around it. When the rings rub against the skin it may cause them discomfort and or abrasions, mostly a cloth are put under to protect the skin.

This community is hard working, based on agriculture that’s hardly changed over thousands of years. There defiantly noticed by their bright colored costumes and their neck jewlery, also their colorful costumes, unique way of life of animism, very spiritual religious beliefs. 
Tattooing among this tribe is as sign to ward off evil spirits, this job is mostly inherited by the mother but only among the Iban the tattooist are the men. The ink is made up of charcoal or soot. Some tribes use wooden blocks to imprint the design onto the body before tattooing.
