Italian Soccer

Everything started in the time of the Roman Empire were the Italians used to play another type of soccer, it was called Harpastum. The modern variation of the game was brought to Italy during the 1880s by the British. At the beginning there wasn't a single championship throughout the country, as the teams would battle in regional ones, under semi-professional rules. Than in 1929 a larger championship was formed, which took the best teams from these regions and made them compete in what would soon become the Serie A league, ruled by the Italian Football Federation("Edoardo Bosio and Soccer in Turin").

However, soccer is a passion in Italy, soccer for Italians means tradition. It's one of the most significant symbols this country has to offer: just like Ferrari, the Coliseum or food.  That claims a professional soccer team in every major city! Soccer is also faith, loving your own team means stitching its jersey forever in your heart. The most popular and skilled players are often national "heroes." On Sundays, the stadiums are packed with fans("Football in Italy").

Almost every kid in Italy plays or likes to play soccer. They play it on the street, on a field or in a club, they just love to play. Hence Italy gets a lot of new young talents.
Therefore, the Italian national team which is called “Azzurri” has already won four FIFA world Cups. The first one was in 1934 in Italy, then 1938 in France, in Spain in 1982 and the last one was at the latest world cup in Germany. So Brazil is just one world cup win ahead ("Italy Soccer").
