Soccer in Brazil

Soccer was brought to Brazil in the nineteenth century. In 1900, a soccer stadium was built just for soccer. They named it "Velódromo Paulista." The stadium was torn down in 1914 when they received better plans to build something new. In 1927, Clube Atlético Paulistano went to tour in Europe because over the years they became very skillful.  Brazil still could not play in the 1930 and 1934 World Cup competitions (“Sports in Brazil”).
The Brazilian soccer team won the World Cup in 2002. Some describe Brazilian soccer as “unmatched technical skill with the ball, highly agile and coordinated

athletic movement, and a goal scoring philosophy utilizing short passes and a patient yet creative and unpredictable attack.” Pele describes it as “the beautiful game” (Carnright).
