Fur and Blubber

A supper think under coat of fur is protected by an outer layer these hairs are know as guard hairs. Blubber helps them float in the icy water.

Food

They love seal. They are carivors they also eat walrus, caribou, seaweed, and beached whales.

Facts

Bears hibernate but polar bears don't.  Polar bears are the largest bears their average is ten feet. In the zoos they live forty-five years, in the wild they only live twenty-five to thirty years. Thats fifteen years longer in zoos.  Polar bears are active at night. three million years age polar bears envoled from brown bears.

Mating

At three years old a female polar bear can mate. Mating seson is April-May. Baby bears stay with moma bear till two to three years old. The mother dosen't eat for eight months. They are losing weight because of globel warning.

Walking

A polar bear can spend seven hours at a time in icy water. An average a polar bears speed is proberly five to six kilometers per hour! They walk more than they run.

Attacks 

The first death by a polar bears was in 1968. Local teenagers followed polar bear tracks, not a good idea. They through rocks at it one of them died.  In the end the bear got shot. Early days in Churchills Manitoba, (polar bear capital.) Back then when ever a polar bear came to town he would die and would be left for sled dogs dinner. A small women smacked a polar bear in the rear and it never came back to her house. In Canada the past thirty years only eight people have died by polar bear attacks!
