Like any beginning March stays under the sign of the fight between evil and good forces, of overthrowing order, but also of restoring it. There are weather forecasts and divination. The Vagaries of the Weather that are characteristic of this period are patronized by 12 or 9 babe, equally whimsical and old, a group of meteorological semi-goddesses. Currently 9 babe are mentioned, from March 1st until 9th . However, contrary to this opinion, there are frequently mentioned 12 babe, and their days do not have a fixed date. Only the fiercest of them, Dochia shows up every year on March 1st. Today, it is a habit for each of us to choose a Baba (Old Woman), and this bears the following symbolism: the weather pattern of the day presided by the Baba we had chosen will determine the outlook for that person for the rest of the year. The custom is called "pusul babelor” (choosing a Baba), but its meaning is different: the weather on that particular day can reveal that person’s nature and moral character. Babele days are followed by those of Mosilor Unchesilor, which end with Alexii on March 17. The border between these days is March 9th. When Babe’s days are cold, people say that Babele are harsh and bad, but that Unchesii will be milder. The general belief is that the weather outlook from the day of March 9th will be maintained for 40 days, even on Easter day.
