George Harrison was born on February 24, 1943 in Liverpool, England. He was raised on 12 Arnold Drive and originally went to Dovedale Infants, (a school in Liverpool off of Penny Lane), before he transferred to Liverpool Institute. He was considered a, "poor student," in what was considered a "smart school." In the mid-1950's, he met Paul Mcartney, another Liverpool Institute student.

When the Beatles were a huge hit, George Harrison was referred to as "The Quiet Beatle," because of his quietness and his growing interest in Hinduism. In the 1960's, he began to play an instrument known as the sitar. The sitar ended up in multiple Beatle songs. The instrument led Harrison to meeting future friend and mentor, Ravi Shankar, a sitar star.

In the summer of 1969, Harrison met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who got him into meditation. During that same summer, the Beatles let out their single Hare Krishna Mantra which was performed by Harrsion and the devotees of the London Radhakrishna Temple. The song topped the top-ten best seller list for records that year. Later, before 1970, Harrison and fellow Beatle, John Lennon, met Swami Prabhupada A.C. Bhaktivedanta, the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consiousness.

Harrison was not really the composer of the group; the composing was mostly done by Lennon and Mcartney. His composing skills did improve over time. He wrote songs like Taxman, Here Comes the Sun, Something, and, My Guitar Gently Weeps."These compositions earned the respect of his fellow Beatles and his fans.

After the Beatles split up in 1970, Harrison had a very succesful solo carreer. He had many hit albums that were very succesful commercially and artistically.

In the 1990's, Harrison, (a former smoker), battled various cancers such as throat and lung. The healing process was not helped when a crazed fan stabbed his lung in 1999.

George Harrison was married twice. His first wife was the succesful model, Patti Boyd. They divorced and Boyd married Eric Clapton. George later married Olivia Arias.

George Harrison died in his house in LA, California on Thursday November 29, 2001. He was fifty-eight and died of a brain tumor. He was later cremated and his ashes were scattered throughout the River Ganges.
