D. THE DRC - THE INTERNATIONAL BATTLEGROUND

The fourth root arose from the international scene and initiated the Great War of Africa in August 1998. Kabila’s former allies now became his enemies backed up by Rwanda and Uganda. Kabila needed help to stop the invasion so he called Zimbabwe, Chad, Sudan, Angola and Namibia for help. Half of the countries in Africa were involved in the war, parted in two sides. The DRC became the battleground and home to almost all military forces from all across the continent.

The situation was catastrophic and the civilians bore the brunt of the conflict - they were literally caught in the crossfire and systematically terrorized and forced to flee their homes. It seemed like the situation could not become worse... but the border of brutality has been pushed even further.
