This page explains the rationale behind the site's layout design, the enhanced features incorporated into the site's content, sidebar, and in general.
General Layout and Colors used
We have opted for a simple, clean and elegant layout, giving the audience a soothing feeling with carefully selected colors which are not too compelling or straining to the eyes, increasing the likelihood of extended stay. We have also chosen to center the page contents to allow users with lower screen resolutions to easily navigate through our site. In addition, we have ensured that the pages adhere to strict web standards so as to enhance the site's accessibility across a range of mobile devices.
The muted background serves as an aid to direct users' focus towards the site contents. This is presented in a bright red scheme as red is a color proven to captivate attention. Red also ties in with our topic since it most commonly signify both a sign of danger and affection, exactly the message we want to convey for mobile devices - that they can be both beneficial and harmful.
To cater to visual learners, we have provided appropriate images and selected videos to visually illustrate the written description. The images are web optimized so that they are still accessible to users with slower bandwidth connections. Users should also find many pictures housed in our image gallery.
The menubar employs a rollover function for intuitive navigation. Upon mouseover, you will be able to see which page each icon represents and the pages they link to. For the page you are currently viewing, the words will already be present.
Image Gallery (Content)
Possibly one of the biggest attractions on our site, the image gallery can be found on all history pages, giving users a visual interpretation and idea on how technology has improved modern devices and their evolution throughout the years. Descriptive captions further faciliates understanding.
Mouseover (Content)
This is your on-the-fly glossary! We understand that some technical terms (especially scientific jargon) hinder comprehension. However, it would be tiresome to have to keep referring to the glossary. Hence we have included a hover feature for instant access to their definitions without disrupting the flow of reading. We did not provide the function for vocabulary terms since the language has been toned to be suitable for our target audience.
