Portable Partners - Positive Impacts of Laptops

Laptops As Convenient

In the simple illustration explored previously under functions, we can see how laptops can be advantageous in regular everyday scenarios. As the protagonist of that example, you made use of the portability of laptops to get that A-Grade for your assignment. What the illustration did not cover, however, is how laptops can be environmentally friendly to use.

Sometimes, when my wife and I were going out to dinner, I would take my laptop with me and work in the car, so as to take advantage of the half hour going and coming.
- Thomas Friedman, award-winning American journalist, columnist and author

On Portability...

Can you imagine lugging you whole desktop system with the moniter and the computer system box, the keyboard, the mouse and all those wires, every day to work, home or school? Impossible right?

Compact and easy to carry around, laptops are just not the same with heavy and bulky desktop models, able to easily fit into school bags and brief cases and taken anywhere. Wi-Fi networks also allow facilitates internet and local network connectivity when mobile. Such features allows us to use it in places where our desktop computers cannot go which means more work is able to be done - employees can work during long commuting periods while students can do research and prepare for class during lecture breaks.

On Education...

Laptops can facilitate us in many ways and using laptops for learning gives students today an edge over the rest as they not only offer students a chance to be self sufficient in learning how to type, plan, manage and follow their schedules, but also enhance our learning in several ways.

Firstly, using laptops in class will allow students to take notes in class, type up assignments, share notes and work on group assignments. In addition, with the integration of technology, many schools have adopted an 'online system' whereby reference notes are uploaded to a portal for students to download. With laptops, you can have constant access to these references along with other Internet libraries and tools. Like mine, your school has possibly already implemented this system. Otherwise you could introduce this idea to your school!

Furthermore, by means of powerpoint presentations and educational films such as documentaries or softwares such as Graphmatica, teachers can provide a visual aid to students which would enhance understanding.

On Conserving Electricity...

Being several times more energy-efficient than desktops, laptops are generally the ecological choice over desktops and can assist us in preserving electricity naturally which in turn reduces electricity pollution and cuts bills. More and more people now leave their computers on 24/7, so such a characteristic is especially valuable for prolonged using.

Sounds exaggerated? Well, it is not. To paint a clearer picture, when inactive, a desktop frequently uses around 130 watts in comparison to the laptop's 15 watts, even with the same specifications.
