Jan Van Hunks was a famous pirate who lived in South Africa. He would often go to the Table Mountain in Cape Town and smoke his pipe. One day, he met a man that also wished to smoke with him. He kindly agreed. Later, the man contested Van Hunks to a smoking competition – who could smoke the most tobacco. Van Hunks accepted and began his competition. They smoked for days on end without neither one stopping. They smoked so much that a thick cloud of smoke covered the flat-top mountain. Finally, Van Hunks gave in to the man. The man then left. As he left Van Hunks saw two horns on his head and a tail pop out under the man’s jacket. The story explains why there are always clouds above the mountain. A certain part of the mountain was named after the man – ‘The Devil’s Peak’.
