The motherboard is like the body of the computer, through which all of the components interface with each other.  The following components is directly connected to the motherboard, the CPU, RAM, chipsets and busses which allows you to connect other hardware to the PC.  Some of the busses names are SATA which lets you connect hard drives and PCI slots where you usually connect your graphics cards.

CPU comes from the abbreviation central processing unit.  The CPU can be referred as the brain of the computer because it performs most of the calculations of the computer to function.  The CPU is usually cooled by a fan or a heat sink.  You also get allsorts of CPU’s such as Intel’s duel core 2 or AMD’s K6.
