Wonders of the World

HOW DID THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD COME INTO BEING.....

Many different lists of the Wonders of the World have been compiled over the ages to showcase the most spectacular man-made constructions and natural things in the world. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is the first known list of the most remarkable man-made creations of classical antiquity, and was based on sights that were popular among Hellenic sight-seers and only included works located around the Mediterranean rim. The number seven was chosen because the Greeks believed it to be a symbol of perfection and prosperity.

The list of the 7 natural wonders  is a contemporary effort to create a list of seven natural wonders chosen by people through a global poll, organized by New Open World Corporation (NOWC), which ran the New Seven Wonders of the World campaign. Seven Natural Wonders is a non-profit endeavour created to protect the seven natural wonders that have already been established.

In 2001 an initiative was started by the Swiss corporation New 7 Wonders Foundation to choose the Modern 7 Wonders of the World from a selection of 200 existing monuments for profit. 21 finalists were announced January 1, 2006. The Egyptians were not happy with the fact that the only original wonder would have to compete with the likes of the Statue of Liberty, the Sydney Opera House, and other landmarks; and called the project daft. To solve this problem, Giza was named an honorary Candidate. The results were then announced internationally on July 7, 2007 in Lisbon , Portugual.
