Banat
The Banat is a part of the Pannonian plain bordered by the River Danube to the south, the River Tisa to the west, the River Mureş to the north, and the Southern Carpathian Mountains to the east. Its historical capital was Timişoara, now in Timiş county in Romania.
Banat is a heaven for travelers and adventure seekers, with abundant opportunities for trekking, mountain climbing, hunting, fishing, horseback riding and more. ,it has exquisite natural scenery with a climate similar to that of the Mediterranean region. The name Banat comes from the word Ban, he was the military leader of the region.
The largest cities in the Banat are: Timisoara (317,651), Resita (83,985), Lugoj (44,571) and Caransebes (28,294).

In Banat you can visit the ancient spas of Hercules at Baile Herculane ,within driving distance of Timisoara, is an ancient Roman spa, developed in the 19th century as a fashionable resort. Legend has it that Hercules himself bathed in the strength-giving natural springs. Mount Domogled, to the west of the resort, is an extensive forest reservation sheltering rare trees, turtles and butterflies.

Also you can visit the State Philharmonic in Timisoara,the Retezat National Park – 80 glacial lakes, including the largest (Bucura, 21 acres) and deepest (Zanoaga, 95 feet) in Romania.

If you are in Romania you must visit the Retezat National Park, located in Hunedoara county, Romania, was founded in 1935 and has an area of 380 km². Containing more than 60 peaks over 7,500 feet and over 80 crystal clear deep glacier lakes, the area shelters one of Europe's last remaining, unaffected natural primary forest and the largest single area of pristine mixed forest. Wolves, brown bear, wild boar, lynx, wildcat, chamois, roe and red deer, as well as small carnivore species such as badger and otter populate the area. In 1979 the Man and Biosphere Program of UNESCO included the park in the international network of biosphere reserve.

The local cuisine of Banat is based mainly on pork and on richly spiced vegetables.A traditional dish in the Banat region is paprikash with dumplings made out of flour and egg dough boiled in salt water. Other local dishes include stew with dumplings, peas and friend eggs, chicken and pork goulash, giblet soup, and chicken with tarragon stew. Other local specialties:
Pogacele - traditional cakes usually with plum brandy.
Here's a recipe for eggplant salad with mayonnaise:

Ingredients:
- 4 kg/9 lb eggplants
- 2 eggs
- 200 ml/7 fl oz oil
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1 medium onion
- 1 garlic head

Roast the eggplants until they become soft and their skin blackens. Peel them while they are hot and place them in a strainer to drain.

Borlova House, Caras-Severin, 1897:
• The household consists of: house and fountain ,all surrounded by a fence of masonry brick, provided with a monumental gate. The house is located at the narrow side road, with the roof and two walls of water tiles.
Campu lui Neag House, Hunedoara, 1800:
• The traditional system of construction, with round pine walls and shingle, the household, datable in the year 1800, brings together around th courtyard , shelters for animals and tools, small room for clothes and food.
Ieud House, Maramures, 1890:
• The monumental gate of oak, with the shingle roof, richly ornamented with Carving is the distinctive sign of a social class, the free villagers. The house is surrounded on three sides by a porch.
Berbesti House, Maramures, 1775:
• Berbesti household with the construction and inventory of tools and objects, reveals the main occupations of the people: agriculture, forest work, and various activities. The living room is equipped with a hearth with oven.
Cherelus House, Arad, 1800:
• The whole household contains: housing and household annexes istalaul and gabanasul. The rooms are decorated with various types of live colorful fabric.
