:-)

Hi, Welcome to our seriously cool web site!!! First of all, Martial arts may be cool to beat up someone, but they are only used incase someone is trying to hurt you. ONLY USE THEM IN SELF DEFENSE. Please, don't go and beat up someone you don't like.

Judo

Judo is a Japanese art that was created by Dr. Jigro Kano. Judo uses weapon free elements found in Jujitsu. Judo is mainly consists of Throws (Called Nage), Grappling (Kateme), and Striking (Called Atemi). The uniforms students wear (Gis) are heavier than Taekwondoe and Karate gis so hey can stand up to everything they would do. They have 6 colored belts and 10 black belt ranks. What is different from other martial arts is how Judo is more sport than self defense. which is different. When the students go to test for their next rank, it is usually at a competition. Judo has 6 colored belts (yellow, purple, blue, etc.) and 10 lack belt levels. surprisingly Judo has no kicking or punching. That what makes Judo different from the other martial arts. Did you know that Judo is an Olympic sport? Well it is, it has been an Olympic sport since 1966. So it's been around for a while... A simple example of Judo is actually this animation:

Karate

Karate is the martial art of the empty hand. That means that you have no weapons, just your hands. And feet, and legs. Modern karate was founded by Ankō Itosu way back in the 6th century Japan. Karate was actually founded on an island just south of Japan called Okinawa. The Okinawans traveled to China to learn Chinese martial arts. When they came back they called their new martial art Te (hands) where the Chinese called it To-De (Chinese hands) Eventually there were 4 different types of what's now known as Karate: Goju Ryu, Shorin Ryu, Uechi Ryu, and Shorei ryu. The Okinawas traned mainly at night in their pajamas that looked sort of like what the gis look like today. Karate is mainly a striking art that also consists of blocks, strikes, and kicks. After a while, many different styles of Karate were formed. The 4 main styles origionally were:

- Goju Ryu

- Shorin Ryu

- Uechi Ryu

- Shorei Ryu ( I study a bridge off of this, Kosho Shorei ryu Kempo Karate)

Gichin funakoshi trained under a few Okinawan karate masters and came up woth his own unique style known as Shotokan. He introduced it in the early 20th century, after that many masters followed him.

- Shoto ryu by Kenwa Mabuni

- Kyokushinkai by Mas Oyama

- Goju Kai by Gogen Yamaguchi

- Wado Ryu by Hinonori

Now there are hundreds or even thousends of different styles! Amazing!

Kung fu

Kung fu is an ainchent Chinese martial art. Kung fu was the original Chinese martial art. It is also the oldest martial art! The north Shao-Lin temple emphasized mostly the mental aspects of Kung fu, the south focused more on the physical aspects. But in whatever temple you studied at, kung fu is an highly intellectual art. Did you know that kung fu wasn't origionally called kung fu? It was called Ch'uan fa back in the early days when your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grand father was alive. Since the warriors mainly trained in temples most of the warriors turned monk! Back then Kung fu was just mainly used as a tool for strengthening the body and for improving coordination.

Facts about the north and south temples:

NORTH

- Used difficult patterns of aerobatic legwork

- They ended up having very strong legs!

SOUTH

- Used to be called Gung fu

- Warriors used low stances and low kicks

- They also used strong hand techniques!

Kung fu is the most popular martial art used in the movies: i.e. Jackie Chan. Here comes Jackie Chan!! Here comes... okay we'll stop singing now...

Kung fu also uses weapons too. They use broad swords, (Duel swords,) and butterfly knifes. And yes, even Nunchucks.

Ninjutsu

Ninjutsu is a Japanese martial art. It is home of the Ninja. Ninjutsu masters are masters of stealth, camouflage, disguise, concealment, and movement.

Ninjas were formed when the samurai attacked ainchent Japan, the farmers in the field made use of the tools they used. After protecting Japan, they were hired to protect the emperor. Ninjas were sometimes hired to be saboteurs, spies, or even assassinators.

There are two main styles of Ninjutsu:

- Iga Ryu

- Koga Ryu

The ninjas were skilled in many martial arts, such as Judo, Jujitsu, and Swordsmanship. They had shorter lighter swords than the Samurai. But they would strap it to their backs. Another famous ninja weapon is the Shuriken or "Throwing Star." You can make your own out of paper from this website: http://www.wikihow.com/Fold-an-Origami-Star-(Shuriken)

cool. The ninjas also used throwing knifes, Tachi, (Katana,) and sometimes a Roku-Shaku-Bo/. (Six foot staff.)

It is even proven that ninjas can be better in a battle situation than the army! According to Ninjas the unsolved history, on the discovery channel, ninjas can dress like a normal person and without anyone even noticing, get to the "prize" faster than a couple of soldiers.

Taekwondoe

Taekwondoe is the art of kick and punch. It was founded by General Choi. It's origin is from Korea. Definition: Fist-Foot-Way. TKD, (Taekwondoe) is a blend of a few different martial arts, Shotokan. karate, and other Chinese and Korean martial arts. It puts a great emphasis on kicks, they don't have very many hand strikes.

Taekwondoe is mainly a sport. The basic competition rules are:

- No Throws

- No holding or grappling

- Protective gear is a must

It is even an Olympic sport. to prove that it is mainly a sport, to get your next rank belt, you have to break a board.

TKD is the most widely practised in the world, and growing.

p.s sometimes Taekwondoe is known as TKD, or Taegwondo.

Aikido

Aikido is a Japanese martial art. It's founder was Morihei Ueshiba. What's cool about Aikido, is you don't need to be really fast, flexible, strong, or really young to be able to learn it. Aikido is actually becoming more popular with woman and senior citizens. Aikido teaches a combination of Jujitsu locks, and sword and spear fighting, and Non-injuring non-aggressive styles. The basic principle is "Do not fight with force." (http://www.martial-arts-info.com/100/aikido) Aikido uses very few punches and kicks. Instead the attacker's energy is used against them in the form of locks, throws, and restraints. Because of that, the attacker is at a constant unbalance.

The sport style of Aikido is called Tomiki Aikido.

Aikido does use some weapons.

- Tento

- Jo

- And Bokken

Even though Aikido is a great martial art, the only draw back is it takes longer to learn than most martial arts.

Hey girls! Don't keep thinking that martial arts are just for the guys. Girls are sometimes even better at it than some boys. I should know. :-) It's my job! Not kidding.
