The Kuiper Belt extends from the orbit of Neptune. It is located 30 - 50 AU away from the Sun. It is divided into the Classical and Resonances belts.  It is similar to the Asteroid Belt but far larger, 20 times as wide and 20-200 times as massive. Another similarity is that they both hold millions of objects. Unlike the Asteroid Belt, which contains rock bodies, objects in the Kuiper Belt are made of ices such of methane, water, and ammonia. These frozen objects are known as comets. The Kuiper Belt houses most of the comets in the solar system. It is estimated that there are over 100,000 comets with a diameter over 50km. The total mass of the belt is a tenth to a hundredth of the Earth's mass. It contains at least three dwarf planets, Pluto, Makemake, and Haumea. They are the largest objects in the Kuiper Belt. Pluto has one moon named Charon. Pluto is the brightest object in the Kuiper Belt. Pluto is 30-49 AU away from the Sun. Pluto used to be considered a planet. Makemake is 45.79 AU away from the Sun. It is the second brightest object in the Kuiper Belt. Haumea is 43.34 AU away from the Sun. It is egg shaped and has 2 moons, Hiʻiaka and Nāmaka. All the objects here are thought to be the remnants of the solar system that didn't form into planets.
