Learn From Your Past

There is a little town in Massachusetts called Orange. Our little town has it’s own history. Your town might be small like our town or you may live in a big city. The one thing we all have in common is that each town has it’s own history. Knowing the history of your town could help save your town from floods and fires. It can also help you be better prepared for natural disasters. If you could step back into time, you might discover an event that changed your town forever.

Artifacts At Risk

A lot of towns have a historical society, but some towns don’t. Historical societies preserve your towns’ history, and also save most of your towns artifacts. If your town doesn’t have a historical society, who preserves your towns history? If your town does have a historical society it doesn’t always mean that all your towns’ history will be saved forever. Click here for some interesting artifact statistics.

Preserving Local History
Navigate:

On this website you will learn about preserving local history. What if no one preserved your local history? What do you think would happen to your town? If you think it doesn’t really matter, think again. It’s important to know our local history because we can learn from our mistakes. Sometimes our local history holds the key to our future.

Our website was designed for ages 10 and up. People all around the world have there own history. Our history isn't more important to us than your history is to you. We all have our own heritage. Our website is important because it will help you learn that all local history is important and we need to protect it. If someone is responsible for preserving your history they should have a disaster plan.

Our team wanted to help save an old blacksmith shop in our town. The Nystrom blacksmith shop was built in the 1820's. The Nystrom building isn't structurally safe and is currently unoccupied. The owner of the Nystrom building wanted to turn it into an educational center. Our team decided to adopt this project. We will have more information about this project on our website.

Our team also decided to help the Historical Society in Orange, Massachusetts. Our team visited the Historical Society. During our visit, we looked at pictures of Orange from the past. While we were there we learned that our Historical Society stores most of our towns historical photos. We also learned that these photos have never been scanned and saved to CD. Our team offered to help. You will also find out more information about this project on this website.
