State of Emergency

On December 12, 2008 Governor Deval Patrick declared a state of emergency. Around 1 million U.S. citizens in New England were without power for many days.

Oh no! No technology? What about ThinkQuest?

Everyone in our group was very nervous about completing our website on time. Almost all our of our work was saved on our computer accounts. I still wanted to work on the website, so I decided to write down what happened each day. After, we decided to use it for the technology page.

One week without Technology

Intro
I was without power for seven days. You never realize how much you use power till you loose it for a long time. I never thought the storm would be this bad. Why does the power go out? Well, I don’t really know but I have this story about what I had to do to entertain myself….

Day 1
It was about 9:00 at night, then it started to hail really bad. At about 9:30 the power went out. I was washing my hands and I thought my sister was joking and turned the lights off on me. I walked out of the bathroom with my hands full of soap. I just wanted to know if she did it but she told me she didn’t then I saw the TV was off. I told her to try to turn it on and we realized the power was off. I went to bed around 10:30 that night.

Day 2
The next day I thought the power would be on but I realized that almost all the trees had ice on them. I was sad because I missed the my computer and the heat. Luckily my grandpa had a generator but we still couldn’t use the computer or TV, but we did have heat. I was mad that I couldn’t take a shower. But I was happy I had heat. That day I read my book. That night I still wanted to read my book so I had to hold a flash light up to my book, so that I could see the words. Then at about 11:00 that night I went to bed.

Day 3
Today I had to wash dishes with water we got from melting snow and from the trees that were starting to drip water from the sun shinning on the ice. My mom helped me with that. Then, me and my sister played some games like Sorry and Monopoly. We did fight about each other cheating but we did eventually work it out. That day we found a radio that you could put batteries in. We had exactly enough batteries for it. My grandpa listened to the news for about an hour then I got to listen to some music. That night I went to bed at about 8:30.

Day 4
Today I went to the mall to bring my mom to work. I got this nice new shirt. I love it. Well I got to have pizza for lunch and I am excited because they said I should have power tomorrow. Today I went to the YMCA and took a shower that was a relief. All I did today was take a nap and read. I went to bed at about 8:30.

Day 5
Well today I had to go with my dad to fill water bottles at the spring. The springs is a place where you can fill water bottles or soda bottles with water. It was pouring but at least I got out of the house. I still don’t have power but they are working at the center of town, but that’s no help. We still have the generator. That night I went to bed at 9:00.

Day 6
Today was a fun day. I got to play basketball and I got to take another shower. I also read a lot in my book Twilight. I love the book. Well I’m sorry I haven’t been writing that much lately, but I have to go finish my homework.

Day 7
Well now I have power. I went to school today and had a basketball game. My team won by 4 points the score was 16 to 20. Well I got power now and I already did my homework so I can write a little more before bed. I am excited that my team won because we have only lost one game. Tonight I am going to bed at 9:00.

Ending
Well now you learned a little bit of how it was without power for the seven days. You also found out something I did to keep myself occupied. That was my story about what happened to me when that power went out.
