The Furies

Three female avengers of wrong.  They particularly shadowed those who were guilty of murder within a family.

The Furies were the daughters of the god Uranus and the goddess Gaia.  The Furies’ names were Alecto (Never ending), Tsiphone (Voice of Revenge), and Megaira (Envious Anger).  The Furies tortured guilty people, particularly people who had murdered someone within a family or a clan.  The Furies were entwined with snakes, and made whips and torches.  Their goal was to drive the guilty one mad, and they usually did.  When they weren’t hounding the guilty on earth, they tortured wrongdoers in the underworld.
