Atlas

A Titan who bore the sky upon his shoulders.

Atlas is the son of the goddess Clymene and the god Iapetus.  Atlas was the leader of the Titans during the war of the Titans and the Olympians, who were lead by Zeus. The Titans lost the war, and as a punishment, Atlas had to bear the earth upon his shoulders forever.  One legend claims that Perseus showed Atlas the Gorgon Medusa’s head and Atlas turned to stone.  This became a blessing in disguise, as he was then strong enough to support the earth and the heavens forever.
