The Eiffel tower was built in the year 1889 it was named after Gustavo Eiffel. (Its designer) Over 20,000,000 people have visited it. It was the tallest tower until 1930 when the Chrysler building in New York was built. The metal structure weighs 7,300 tons while the whole thing weighs about 10,000 tons. Depending on the temperature the top of the tower may shift away from the sun up to 7inches, (18cm) because of heat expansion. The tower also sways 2-3inches in the wind.
