Living Environment

When we think about space, we mainly think of one question: will we ever be able to live on another planet. We believe that in the year 2059 humans will be able to live on the planet Mars.

But why Mars? Because Mars is the only planet other than the Earth where we have found water. It also has a climate that is relatively similar to Earth’s climate. This means that Mars has potential to support life, but there are also several conditions that could make the chance for humans to live on Mars very small. First of all Mars has no magnetosphere and a very thin atmosphere. This causes very little heat transfer, meaning that there are huge temperature varieties. It also makes the planet very vulnerable to meteor showers and solar winds. Secondly, there is not enough pressure to keep water in the liquid form. The problems seem overwhelming, but we believe that in 50 years we will have developed ways to live on Mars. But this raises other questions.

  • Will Mars be a tourist location or will it be an extra planet to live on?
  • Will people prefer Mars over Earth?
  • Will Earth be abandoned due to environmental problems and energy sources running out?
  • Will Mars be able to supply it own needs such as food?
  • Will there be trade in recourses between Mars and Earth?

But Mars isn’t the only planet that will change in the future, many things on earth will change as well. What countries are still existing for example, and what countries are taken over by other countries? Maybe in future we’ll have the United States of America, the United States of Europe and the United States of China. But the countries are not the only things that have been changed in future. Animal species for example will have changed as well. Some animal species will have become extinct, animal habitats will have changed and maybe new species of animals will have been discovered. It is also possible that the animals we know today will have evolved to survive in the future.
