The petrol we all know and love isn't going to last for much longer. In 2005 the USA was using a staggering 20.7 million barrels of oil per day! With this amount of consumption there won't be any oil left, reserves of oil are already starting to run dry.
Scientists are starting to develop new and cleaner ways to power our much loved cars. The one that is the most beneficial, although rather expensive at the moment, is the hydrogen cell fuel. This is one of the most cleanest type of fuel cells as the worlds air is filled with hydrogen. The only thing that comes out of the exaust of the car is water so there is no harmful gas going into the air.
Movement
Many cars that are depicted in movies seem to be hovering in 90% of the films. Unfortunately this doesn't seem likely to be one of the things scientists are developing. The main factor for this is that the amount of power needed to make the car hover would be monumental. With the worlds power supply starting to run out there is less and less chance of the amount of power being available. Because the cars would have more weight due to the hovering power and equipment would inturn make the weight much heavier which would mean it would have to have bigger engines which would then mean more weight. This would continue unless some sort of engine was invented that was powerful enough.
