Drug Abuse

 

Before the Comics Code, a stamp of approval based on the content of the comic book, many publishing companies were not allowed to publish certain material. Content, like the mentioning of drugs, was not to be published. Stan Lee, co-creator of Marvel Comics, broke this and published several Spider-Man issues that talked about drugs. In one issue a boy overdosed before Spider-Man could save him. Many stories followed this tradition and included storylines revolving around drugs. DC Comics heroes like the Green Lantern and the Green Arrow fought societal issues like drugs. Marvel Comics hero, Iron Man has had several issues where he has battled his own problem of alcoholism. This heightened the maturity content for readers and allowed for further flourishing of more serious issues. v
