Biodiesel has the highest energy yield per unit of fossil energy that is used to make the fuel. Biodiesel has 3.5 units of energy per every unit of fossil energy that is needed to make the fuel over its life cycle, according to a new research carried out at the University of Idaho with the cooperation of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This means that for every unit of fossil energy that is used to make the fuel, 3.5 units of biodiesel energy is created.
