You

Hi, my name is you and I am a high school junior currently in Oroville. I come from a Hmong family. In this website I experience many different changes in the teams. Some of the obstacles that I went through were getting the team on task. Another that I face this year was as a beginner in web design and also the changes that I faced. Mostly the hardest thing that I faced this year was the unity of the team because the whole team consisted of just men and it was hard trying to get everything for each to do during the time. Sometimes I wonder how much can we finish in the time being and how much can be done or not done. Though the time had a hard time in many things we still had a successful time knowing each other. The one main problem was that tow team mates, Chong and Cody both always fought to see who had the better idea and what they could do. One other problem was that we could never come to the same conclusion and the differences that could be done. Also in this website I did the interviews and the web design, and also the team captain. The team was diverse in races but not in gender though. But we still made it through different things and differtn plans we all had.

Victor

My name is Victor and I am a 10th grade student. I’m from a Mexican family that has moved to the United States before I was born. I am fluent if both English and Spanish and I am currently taking a senior Spanish class at my high school. This was my first year in Trio Thinkquest. I was first interested in Trio when my sister was in the program. My part of the work was mainly to help everyone start and finish any projects. I did most of the flash and the gas pump was one of the things I did on the little extra time we had. We had a lot of people supporting us and they always made our day brighter. When we felt like giving up they always would bring us back to our goal. They would remind us what our goal was and that we were so close to reach it and that would always get our spirits up. We spent a lot of time trying to stop Cody and Chong from fighting about who was right and who got to do what. Me and team member You were the ones in the group trying to keep everything under control and not have Cody and Chong fight over something that really did not matter. At the end we got them not to fight as much and to be as productive in the group as possible. At the end they still had their differences but learned how to work together.

Cody

My name is Cody. I am a 10th grade student. I specialize in art and design as well as knowing basic computer skills. This subject is personally close to me I have been interested in this topic for some time now. Coming from a racing and mechanic background I was first introduced to this subject through racing. We ran ethanol fuel in one of the cars I drove, which I found spectacular since ethanol comes from corn. I have a much different perspective of this whole issue than the rest of my team just because I was the only one with a first hand view of the performance factors of alternative fuels. When Trio Think Quest came up and I was given the opportunity to expand my knowledge and others in the area if environmental science and bio-fuels, I was all for it. My personal goal is to be able to teach people about a global wide subject that may just be the future toward saving not only our money and natural resources, but also help with the worldwide issue of global warming. Although we are friends now, art first our team was a battleground. Another team member, Chong, and myself were in a constant power struggle, I am the type of person to be in charge and never back down. Now that we have able to work through our problems to create this website it is cool to look back and see that it is possible to work together two personalities that do not necessarily work well together.

Chong

About Me

My name is Chong and I’m 16 years old currently attending high school as a junior. I am a very goal-oriented student with high aspirations for academic success. I also am very involved in extra-curricular activities such as volunteer work. In my club, L4L (Leaders-4-Lifetime), we promote healthy nutrition and exercise. On February 15th 2009 our club put on a performance that features cultural dance, skits, and other performances to raise money to help build a school for less fortunate students in Laos and provide potable water. I hope to attend a 4-year university after high school. My role was the researcher and writer of the website. What diversifies me from my teammates is that I am Hmong: A group of people originally from the high mountains of Laos. I have such loving parents that sacrificed so much for my siblings and I. I am able to find motivation very easily and it made me strive for the top. My parents’ perseverance in life, the will to keep going despite all odds and never letting anyone tell you that you can’t do something, shaped who I am today and who I will be tomorrow. It doesn’t matter how slow I may go as long as I do not stop. I will reach my goals in life. My parents gave me life and sacrificed for me when their world was falling apart. They always help and find solutions to other peoples’ problems. Their humane regard for human life and mother earth are shown by their gracious dedication to helping others and using light bulbs that use less energy, boiling their own hot water, reusing shopping backs, recycling bottles and paper every month, and instead of driving, they only ride bicycles around the city. I learned from my parents’ care for mother earth, she needs to be treated properly or else she may not be there for us, her child. Like my parents, I learn how to treat mother earth more humanely. My parents’ courage, modesty, integrity, kindness, and love are forever engraved in me.
