Pablo Picasso: Pablo Picasso was a famous Spanish artist who lived from 1881 to 1973. He is well known for his many paintings. While attending local parochial schools, Picasso was labeled as a dyslexic because he had great difficulty understanding the orientation of letters. Even though he had troubles throughout his life, he was still a very talented painter. He is famous for painting people out of order and some of his most well known paintings are Guernica, The Young Ladies of Avigon, and Old Man with the Guitar.
Magic Johnson: Born Earvin Effay Johnson Jr., Johnson is a retired NBA player. He played as a Los Angeles Laker for 17 years. He is known for his great dribbling and passing skills, and his always positive attitude despite the troubles he’s faced with dyslexia. He also has AIDS. Despite these hardships, he has said, “I wanted to show everybody that I could do better and also that I could read.”
John Lennon: John Lennon is known for being a singer, guitarist, and songwriter for The Beatles, a popular musical group from Britain. Lennon was expelled from his primary school in 1945 for misbehavior. It was unknown at the time that he was a dyslexic and also legally blind without glasses. Despite his disability, Lennon is recognized as a musical icon of the 21st century. He was voted 8 out of the 100 Greatest Britons of all time in 2002.
Walt Disney: Walt Disney is the founder of Disney, one of the most well-known motion picture producers in the world. Before becoming so successful, he was labeled slow as a child. He was fired as a writer for a Kansas City newspaper because he was considered not creative enough. Since then, not only has he founded Disney, but he has been recognized as a great director, screenwriter, and cartoonist. He has also appeared in a cover issue story of Time Magazine about famous people overcoming dyslexia.
