Ocean Plants:
The main marine plant types are algae and sea grasses. There are simple algae like phytoplankton and more complex algae like seaweed these types of plants have a root system and algae helps support most of the marine life in the ocean. The main plant in the ocean is algae and marine plants are the basic element of the food chain. Both marine plants and land plants provide oxygen for animals and humans. Another part the plants play in the ocean is making a home for the fish. If the marine plants didn’t exist there wouldn’t be any life on this planet. Special algae called zooxanthellae live inside corals. There are thousands of them that live in corals. These tiny helpers make nutrients that the corals need to live. The corals feed them with their debris. |
Coral reefs get their color from the zooxanthellae that live inside the coral.
Without the zooxanthellae, the coral is white.
