The Taliban were a group of people who ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. The Taliban gained power during the long civil war that their country was included in. They were removed from power in December 2001 by the U.S. military and Afghani forces in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the U.S. Since the fall of the Taliban rule, change is coming, but women still do not feel safe because their country is still at war.
One unfair law created by the Taliban was that women could not leave their homes unless a male relative escorted them. The problem with this law was that about 40,000 women did not have a male relative to escort them out of their home. This restricted women to never be able to leave their home.
